lyf

your lyf stays on your phone —

Privacy Policy

A plain-language account of what lyf collects, what it doesn't, and the controls you always have. Short version: your videos never leave your device.

The short version

lyf is a daily video journal. We built it so the recordings you make stay where they belong — on your device.

  • Your videos never leave your phone. We do not upload, back up, stream, or view them on any server.
  • Our server only keeps your account (email and, if you used Apple or Google sign-in, the name they returned) and a small amount of metadata about each recording — the date, the sequence number, the duration in seconds, and the file size in bytes. Never the video itself, never the audio, never a preview frame.
  • We record anonymous feature-usage counts (for example, "export tapped 3 times today") so we can tell which parts of the app actually get used.
  • No ads. No third-party analytics. No AI training. No selling your data — ever.

1. What stays on your device

The following data is created and stored only on the device you're using. It does not leave your phone, and we cannot see it.

  • Your video recordings. Saved in the app's private storage on your device.
  • Your edits. Trim points, clip arrangement, and any tweaks you make in the editor are saved locally.
  • Drafts and unsaved changes. Anything you haven't finished is kept in device storage only.

If you uninstall lyf, or use your device's "clear app data" option, this content is gone — we cannot recover it, because we never had it.

2. What our server does collect

To sign you in and to keep a simple record of the days you've journaled, we store the following on our backend (Supabase):

  • Account information. Your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the name those services return. Authentication tokens that keep you signed in.
  • Recording metadata. For each day you record, we store: the date, an optional title and description you typed, and for each clip within that day — a sequence number, the duration in seconds, the file size in bytes, and the timestamp it was recorded at. We do not store the video file itself, the audio, a thumbnail, or any frame of the recording.
  • Feature-usage counts. Which features you tap (recorder, editor, export, share, save-to-gallery, filter applied), how many times, and how long you spent — recorded against your account so we can see aggregate patterns. This data contains no content from your recordings.
  • Platform. Whether you're on iOS or Android, so we can debug platform-specific issues.

3. How we use what we collect

Everything we collect is used for one of the following:

  • Signing you in and keeping your session secure.
  • Showing a simple list of the days you've journaled when you open lyf on a new device — so you can see "yes, I recorded on these days," even though the video files themselves only live on the device where you recorded them.
  • Sending occasional service emails (password resets, important account notices, or a meaningful change to this policy).
  • Understanding, in aggregate, which features people actually use so we know what to improve.

We do not use any of your recordings, metadata, or usage data to train AI models, to target advertising, or to profile you for anything outside of running lyf itself.

4. Device permissions lyf asks for

lyf asks for only what it needs to record and save videos:

  • Camera & Microphone. To record your daily video. Nothing is captured until you press record.
  • Photo library / Media. Only when you choose to export a video out of lyf and save it to your phone's gallery.

You can revoke any of these from your device settings at any time. lyf does not ask for location, contacts, calendar, or any other sensitive permission.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for advertising. The only third parties involved in running lyf are:

  • Supabase — our backend provider, which hosts the account and metadata database described above. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Apple & Google — if you choose to sign in with Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive your email and name from them as part of the sign-in response.
  • Your device's app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) — for delivering the app and optional in-app purchases, handled entirely by the store.

We do not embed any advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs (no PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase Analytics, Segment, or similar), crash reporters that send personal data, or tracking pixels.

6. Your rights & controls

You are always in charge of your lyf. You can:

  • See what's on the server. Email us and we'll send you the metadata associated with your account.
  • Save a video out. Export any recording from the editor to your phone's gallery.
  • Revoke permissions for camera, microphone, or photo library from your device's system settings.
  • Sign out from Settings — your local videos stay on the device.
  • Delete your account. Email gouccdev@gmail.com from the address on your account. We will permanently remove all server-side account data and metadata within 30 days. To remove your videos, uninstall the app or clear its data on your device.

7. Security

Server-side data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on Supabase. Access to the production database is restricted to the small number of people who operate lyf. Because your video recordings never reach our servers, no breach of our infrastructure could expose them.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you've found a security issue with lyf, please write to gouccdev@gmail.com and we'll respond quickly.

8. Children

lyf is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us at gouccdev@gmail.com so we can remove it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect new features, legal requirements, or improvements to how we protect your data. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.

If a change is significant, we'll notify you in-app or by email before it takes effect. For any question about this policy or how your data is handled, please write to gouccdev@gmail.com.
